im sort of building my own system, and want to know if this proccessor is better than my current.

my current is a Pentium 4 2.66ghz (which are apprently**** for gaming) the one thats going to be in my new computer is a AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz (Socket AM2), is this slightly better at all despite lower GHz? because ive heard AMD's are better for gaming.

*Fully star out swearing please*

It is faster than your current cpu but if your buying a new system then I would get a Intel C2D E6300 instead as this is faster than the AMD cpus out now.

They were! but now INTELs are better again lol :p

Just remember to take what people say with a pinch of salt, a lot of folk tend to 'Exaggerate' when they talk about hardware . . . :D

well because im only 15 im sort of on a budget. i think this will be fine till mid next year with 1gb of ram and a 7900GS, then i can upgrade when i get some more money.

well what im doing atm, is possibly buying the cheap primo basic from ocuk, getting a 7900GS for now, (upgrade the psu if needed) and get some more ram for it. so overall around £400ish

Ok so backup a minute :)

Tell us what kit you have now (like that P4-2.6 etc).

Once we know what you got hardware wise (including monitor) then we can help better in your task of upgrading! ;)

well i have a P4 2.66ghz, 512mb of ram (2100), not sure a bout the motherboard but i have a geforce 4 mx 440, (extremely crap lol) current monitor is a 17inch 1074x768 max, but im gonna need a new one anyway.

thats not bad richdog, and yeah i can put the stuff together ok, did it fine when i upgraded my current system, shame i cant really play games because of a low psu atm)

only problem is everything else, case, psu etc which would probably cost a lot more to get everything.

Then save a bit more... and don't only get 1GB memory as the guy above suggested (2GB is pure minmum for "future-proof" gaming nowadays). If you want the complete package new then you're going to have to budsget accordingly... or buy used goods. :)
