Please can someone tell me if this ram is compatible with my motherboard?
I have a epox 8rda+ revision 2 with the latest bios. I roughly know what most of the below means except for "Chip density" - A friend said that my motherboard may not be compatible because of this. Its the first i've heard about chip density. I always thought that 184 pin DDR was standard DRR (except for PC rating) which works with all DDR motherboards.

Two x 1024MB (1GB) DIMM
PC3200 400Mhz DDR Memory
Chip Configuration: 128x64
Chip Density: 128x4 (High Density)
Unbuffered, Non Ecc, Non Registered
Voltage: 2.5V CAS Latency: 3
184 Gold-Plated Pins, SPD Support

many thanks for any help

Older VIA chipsets (for socket A\478) support high density DDR, so does nforce 3 250 (and possibly a few others).

Asus motherboards will not take it regardless of chipset.

I have just purchased an Asus A8N-E and I'm a little worried about memory.

The manual states the following

Due to CPU limitation, DIMM modules with 128Mb memory chips or double-sided x16 chips are not supported in this motherboard

I'm aware that it won't take high density RAM, but I can't decipher the statement to work out what RAM I can fit.

I want to fit 2x1GB and I would be looking at branded "Value" RAM but from the OcUK site

Corsair - seems to use 128Mb chips
Geil - looks OK but not sure
Crucial & OcUK - doesn't declare what it uses

Is my new board really that limited?

Cheers,

Nigel

All the modules on OcUK will work with your board :)

Thanks for the reassurance - it did seem starange that MoBo appeared to support so little.

But can you clarify something for me (I feel I must be at crossed-purposes)

The OcUK webstore states that Corsair Value Select uses 128M x 64

The Asus manual states that it can't use 128M chips

To me my simple mind this is saying that Corsair is using 128M chips and therefore, can't be used with the MoBo.

Hope you can see why I am confused.

Cheers,

Nigel

Hi there sorry to keep asking compatibility questions but are either of these motherboards compatible with high density ram?

ASRock K7VT4A Pro Socket A KT400A ATX
its chipset is VIA Apollo KT400A

and
http://www.asrock.com/product/K7S8XE+.htm this one?

I got it (ram) off ebay and stupidly didnt check compatibility and i need to find a motherboard (any socket A) so i can see if they work before the month warranty ends. If there are no socket A's compatible im willing to get a socket 939 maybe upgrade (its about time anyway lol)

I really appreciate any help with this and I will buy you a beer** for further advice
and many thanks

** note: virtual Beer only - i'm a student after all! ;)

I also bought high density for my asrock and the memory shows 256mb per stick . Tried in a via KT266A & nforce 2 and the same problem. Returned the sticks and got a replacement and again 256MB

I don't know if resell the sticks or return for a refund :(

anybody in Brighton who would like to test them in his pc????
