Is this realistically possible?

We have to do an assignment on Operating systems & Systems Software, the thing is it's about Windows 7, the following we need to cover:

· System Specs
· Boot Process
· Boot Time – From the Windows 7 splash screen.
· Desktop Design
· Performance Issues
· Driver Database
· New features
· Remove features
· Windows 7 versions
· Windows 7 versions and their features

Addition Features:
· System software comparison xp/Vista . Vs. Windows 7
· Application software compatibility
· Multitasking changes/features
· Security improvements (firewall, User access, Anti-Virus etc…
· Networking experience Lan and Wan

Outcomes:
· Identify software tools for system configuration and security
· Identify different types of system software
· Identify the different types of application software
· Evaluate the features of an operating system

Evaluation of Windows 7

· System specs – What does it need to run.
· Boot process – Booting process system files, like NTLDR.
· Boot times – who is discussing how long to boot – review site
· Changes to desktop design – is it or isn’t it?
· Drivers – haven they made the system better for drivers?
· New features – what are some of the new features
· Windows 7 versions – What versions and what’s in them?

Additional Features
· A comparison between XP/Vista and W7 – Such as system files versus system files
· Applications – which application are suitable to run
· Multitasking – has that changed better/worse?
· Security – have they increased it, decreased? Does it have AV or Firewall services, are they better or do we still need third party software?
· Networking – is it easier or no different to Vista?

My concern is the word count... 2000 words, it seems like far too small word count for what we have to do no? I'm struggling thinking how I can narrow everything down, yet to get a merit or distinction you need to discuss everything in detail...

thanks
will.

No. Just do it and find out for youself if you can get it into 2000 words. What are you going to do otherwise? refuse and fail?

Well if I am 10% over 2000 words we get our marks knocked down. I am just going to go along, try and cover a large chunk of this assignment tonight, we have 8 weeks, so I'll hand in a draft to the tutor and see what he says. Just If I go into detail it means lots of word count, more than 2000 IMO and I want to aim for distinction.

No you can't. Windows 7 isn't out yet. The beta is but who knows that will be changed.

Well since the latest leaked build is 706* it's apparently going to be what is released for RC, I think the tutor wants use to evaluate it at the current level. I was abit surprised like, doing an assignment in a uni course on an unreleased OS and been encouraged to download the leaked builds.

Just asked my other tutor what he thinks, he said "it's orite it's good!"

But then again, this is the brief for the assignment that might make it add up?

"A company called "2-morrows logistics" have requested from you as a systems analyst/consultant to investigate and evaluate the next operating system from Microsoft called Windows 7. They have an interest in the newest software available on the market and at this stage would like to know if Windows 7 is going to be worth the investing in for their company usage

Together with the evaluation of the operating system, they would also like to know if any of the system software has changed, so a listing of the system software will need to be gathered and evaluated, additionally the company would like to also know if the operating system is backward compatible with other application software that can be used with Windows XP or Vista."

Really! what's the problem?
Don't you have tutor sessions?
Most of that stuff will be displayed in graphs and tables. Which don't count towards the word count. You just then write paragraphs summing it up.
The word count also shows you how much detail they are looking for.

I dont ever use many graphs and tables, I find I'm better at describing in words rather than graphs and tables but I'll give it a go.
