Going form a Asus P5k w/fi (the one in my sig) back to an Evga 680i and adding an extra 8800GTX?

It isn't downgrading if the Nforce 680i works well but do you actually need the extra graphics card? Usually it makes more sense to go for the newer faster single graphics card option.

Yes, 8800GTX = old, you will have to upgrade eventually... Might as well do it now.

No. Depends if you get a good 680i - I'm using a 680i and its the best mobo I've ever used.

so no point SLI'ing up two 8800GTXs?

As far as my knowledge goes then a super clocked one of these can out do a 9800GTX

and the 280's a very lot of money atm!

Why not a 4870? If the board is Xfire (which I think it is) you could go CrossFire if you wanted to.

current board only has an 8x second pci-e lane so i guess waste of money for the CrossFire route

If you can get the same oc on your q6600 using the 680i, 2 gtx in sli would be a pretty powerful rig. assuming of course that you can pick up a second gtx at a decent price. I was considering going sli by adding a second gts 512. what with prices being so cheap now but my 680i board died and is currently of for rma.

what psu do you have, from what i remember the gtx's are power hungry so will it be able to cope with 2 ?
