seriously this looks like a really really good laptop and most places would price this really high comparitivly.

the price is soo good me and my brother are about to buy one each

the card we looked at and wondered, is it the mobility radeon hd 5870 (34th rank) or the radeon hd 5870 (3rd ranked card in the entire table, sold here for £290) we assume the information for the laptop must be wrong and it is indeed a mobility version, but if oc can clear this up it would help

from testing and research online my brother concluded this laptop will run games such as modern warfare 2 on full settings like a dream, but im skeptical of whether it really can be this price?!

here is the passmark list:

honestly, its the best graphics spec weve found on any site we trust to buy computers from

have MSI just looked at laptops and said , people are looking for a serious gaming laptop and not getting it, so we want something with a good cpu, decent amount of ram and the best possible graphics card we can fit into it!

we hope this is the case as we are very excited about this laptop, i am literally thinking it could surpass my desktop rig!

thanks in advance for all answers to my questions, weve checked benchmarks of every graphics card in every offered machine on places like ****** amazon and ocuk itself and found no cards to offer what we were looking for, so we really are pinning our hopes on this being the real deal!

The MSI is a nice bit of kit, sadly the US version gets a better CPU for around the same price :(

The Mobility Radeon HD 5870 is not equiv to the desktop version.
Compared to desktop graphics cards, the Mobility Radeon HD 5870 should perform somewhere between a Radeon HD 5750 and 5770 according to the specs (shader count of 5770, clock rate of 5750).
Its still plent fast enough, and IMO probably one of the best laptop buys about ATM for gaming.

indeed, after reading that review page i found it was the mobility, which still boasts rank 34 in the Passmark benchmark testing, which is a lot higher then the 330M nvidia cards boasted by most of the ****** and amazon machines, and even the machines boasting radeon 5650 graphics cards did need seem as good as this laptop, our search is definately over and we are investing as soon as i transfer a lot of money to my dads bank account XD

These are indeed capable machines for the money, although CPU could be at the higher end of i5, however, for the money can't complain. Have you checked this benchmark for the graphics card too?

The cards do indeed perform well on mains power, a mobile equivalent of a 5750/70 really isnt that shabby and more than enough to play most games at decent settings as long as you dont expect too much

I'm behind with gfx cards etc, how would this compare as a desktop replacement for my gtx285 q6600 rig?

Thanks,

G

Sorry to be a noob, but I've read that and I still don't know how that compares to my rig. I don't know about Graphics cards at all.

Thanks,

G

Go onto google and look up some benchmarks from the cards that are stated in post 3, see how they compare to the speeds you see on your deskptop.

That should give you some idea how it compares :).

OMFG FINALLY.

had four days of sheer bother trying to order three of these, or even one, turns out we got some bad luck and the card we tried to order with was blocked for "fraud problems" just around the time we attempted to use it to buy the laptops,

so we have just been told its being replaced and has been blocked, managed to order on a different card now so weve got three heading our way by monday! :D

we are giving one to a guy whos never used a good pc or laptop before, he says he wants to use it for facebook! well we are going to try to teach him that he didnt just buy it for that, especially at this price.

hes never played pc games and normally plays xbox 360 and has autism.
Pc gaming is totally new to him, but we are hoping to induce it into the scene.

Can't wait for these laptops to turn up, from a mobility perspective its very handy and a lot more feasable to move my laptop to friends houses then an open sided pc and 42 inch tv, which i normally use while sat on my bed with a snapped mouse mat and pretty much looking like a ps3 player.

thanks for the optimistic advice about these laptops fellas, they do look top notch.

Good luck, you should find performance good, if not mind blowing compared to a high end PC :)
Remember to download ATI's mobility drivers not the normal ones (they're on amd.com)

The laptop is excellent, i got mine on monday minus o/s as i dont require it. Very nice machine quite well built. Only complaint so far is as others have pointed out the swapped FN & Ctrl keys, but i can live with that.

Also the spec's label is a pain to remove, but i think it looks soo much better without it!

Hi Guru,

you can slap one in, but would kiss good by to the warranty, well on mine it would as its got a sticker over one of the screw holes :(
