Is it correct that you cannot use 4x512Mb sticks of RAM with an X2 cpu?

I don't think that's right.

If you use 4 sticks, it may drop the timings a little, that's all. (1T -> 2T).

And overclocks drop a lot thanks to the onboard memory controller not being up to it usually.
