i have just tried overclocking for the first time.. raised the bus speed by 5Mhz.. ( :D ) and then i loaded up cpu-z and where it says core speed.. it only says 1230Mhz is that right ?

my c2d e6300 is mean to be 1.8 is it not ?

a Gigabyte DS3P maybe someone who has this board could step by step me....

im not a noob normally.. just at overclocking..

come on please answer !!

Go into BIOS, Press Ctrl+F1, Go into MIT(Motherboard Tweaker, Bottom Left) Think its the second or third 1 down CPU Clock Ratio put this on 7. Try that and see what speed your CPU is let me know if it helped.

BEn

EDIT: Too slow lol

what is up with my new pc.. in the bios it says the cpu multiplier is x7 but when i load up cpu-z it says it is only x6   also it says my core speed is 1600MHz should it not be 1860 for a e6300 ??

Please Help me by answering right now !!

edit - what is the difference between a Allendale and conroe core processor... ?

now i am wondering if you can help ?

i have now got my processor to the speed it should be... but i am very worried about overclocking it... i tried to overclock before and i broke it by overclocking the fsb by just 10... is that right ? what did i do wrong ? before cpu-z said my processor was 1.6 and now after i broke it and fixed it... (removed battery) it has now gone up to 1.8 which is what it should have been... this seems all very odd to me.. could someone help me with my overclock please.. perhaps a step by step...

After resetting the cmos, go to the BIOS and up the FSB ONLY by 5mhz and boot into Windows and see what CPU-Z says then.

Cos you could be changing sumin else that is screwing it!

Follow this guide :)

Clocking
1. Make sure that you have the latest chipset drivers and flash the board to the most recent bios version
2. On the main bios screen press Ctrl+F1 to open the advanced options within the menus
3. In the Advanced Bios Features Menu, Disable all of the following: CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E), CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2), CPU EIST Function
4. In the PC Health Status menu, set the FAN Speed Control Method to "Legacy" & FAN Speed Control Mode to "PWM" to maintain highest speed
5. Go into the MB Intelligent Tweaker (MIT) menu at the bottom of the page, set the System voltage control to "Manual"
6. These boards have a default VDIMM of 1.8v, set the VDIMM to co-ordinate with your ram. The Geil I have is specced as 2.1v so I have mine set to +0.3v
7. Set the MCH Voltage to +0.1v
8. Set the FSB Voltage to +0.1v
9. Set the VCORE to 1.45v - Please be aware that this will increase temps!
10. Set the CPU Host Clock Control to "Enable"
11. Set the System Memory Multiplier to "2x"
12. You're set to go, just increase the System bus Frequency to Overclock
13. I would reccommend that you use Intels TAT to monitor temps

Watch your temps tho, might be best to set vcore at 1.35v first or even lower:)

Make sure you are looking at the right things in CPU-Z. When I first overclocked I kept thinking the overclock wasn't actually working as in the top section it read '6600 @ 2.4GHz". Make sure you are reading the section which I have circled below:

Try and have a bit more patience too, people are more likely to help you if you ask them nicely rather than simply saying "Answer!!" and "Answer me right now!!".

sorry.. it was only a joke... ok ? i did not mean to offend... thanks for all your answers.. will try it out now.. :D

edit - is 45c at idle good for not overclocked e6300 with noctua ??
