Is this right?

So I have a 550d and yesterday bought a lovely Canon 24-105mm L IS f4 lens. Now I'm finding that when in shutter priority mode,the fastest selectable shutter speed is 1/200. This can't be right surely? Am I missing something?

Got a flash on?? Flash sync speed will be about 1/200 - 1/250 ish unless you use high speed sync.

That's a good thought. Will have to check when I get home but I don't think that wud explain it.

Any other thoughts

Yes that would explain it. 550D sync speed is 1/200.
If you want faster shutter speeds, turn on HSS from the flash.

Are u talking about the built in flash? Im not using an attachment flash

If your built in flash doesn't do HSS, or if you have to manually enable it with a button or menu option, then it will limit your SS to 1/200.

Looks like 550D built in flash doesn't do HSS so you will be stuck at 1/200 maximum with it on, regardless of the mode I would think.

Presumably I can disable the flash then otherwise I'm always limited to 1/200 as my quickest shutter speed? Sorry if newbie questions just got the camera and the manual is crud

If the flash is up, push it back down.
