Is this setup good enough for battlefield 3?

The budget is around £220 I'm afraid so the Hd5670 will have to stay. I'd live with 30fps.

On another note how much of a difference would this bring over a x2 5000+?

Not in multiplayer you wont :P

BF3 will need a quad and a mid-high end GPU like the 460 mentioned by others. Bad company 2 really should be played with a quad core and it taxes my 5850 card sometimes on high settings 1920x1080. So considering that game is built on the frostbite engine 1.5 and BF3 is on the new frostbite 2.0 BF3 will have higher requirements.

So the gtx460 seems the best option.

SO the new system would be

768mb gtx460
x4 955 BE
4gb ddr3 ram
corsair cx 400 psu

Would that psu be able to handle overclocking with that system?

You can't really plan what your system for 7-8 months down the line may be, wait until the time comes, don't make a definite decision now because things change too much. I usually plan a few weeks in advance and make a definite decision on the day I'm ordering :)

Erm, I would doubt that the graphics card would cope!

Might be worth dropping down to an Athlon II.

Whats the overall budget?

meh me thinks different

i had a saphire hd5670 1gb and i could run metro 2033 at medium settings at 1440x900 with tesselation on at 30+ fps

trust from a previous owner of a 5670, get a 1gb version and you will be fine

Currently these parts cost the following

1. X4 955 BE (£100)
2. gtx 460 (£100-110)
3. 4gb ram (£35)
4. Decent case (£40)
5. Decent mobo (£65)

Assuming I'm buying the same parts at the end of the year, how much do you think these prices will fall?

It all depends on how good Bulldozer is , if it blows the phenoms out of the water and is cheap enough to produce the price of the cpu could go down by about £25 . Ram is cheap now because its cheap to manufacture and can fluctuate at any time , did a build a few years and the DDR 2 was the same price as kit you have listed . 6 weeks later the same kit was double the price .
I can't see the GPU price changing because i can't see a new generation of cards easily available till maybe Q1 or Q2 of 2012 . With cases its just pot luck you might get a second hand case at a great price .

it is hard to say, but bulldozer should bring the price of a 955 down a fair bit. and there will probably be new gpu's out. your probably best looking out for different daily/weekly deals.

edit- what smiley said;)

Is there lots of deals on black friday/cyber monday in the uk?

If not then browsing hotukdeals seems like the best option come november/december time.

Edit: I need to learn how to delete posts

I have 2 Ati 5670HD 1GB's in CrossfireX do you think i will be able to run Battlefield 3 and any other new game? Also other info in sig.

Your 2 5670's would sit between a 5770 & 5830 performance-wise imho, so I'd say you might be pushing it if you were expecting high framerates with mid-high gfx quality in multiplayer.

Best option might be to sell the 2 5670's if you can & buy a single card like the 6870 / 6950 / gtx 460 1gb / gtx 560 if you can.

If you don't want to sell then your cards should run BF3, just at low-mid gfx quality I imagine, and depending on what resolution you game at.

I run all my games at 1920x1080 and at most at high settings even the ones that auto detect will set it to high. Doesn't my processor make a difference aswell. I have only had my pc since June last year so not even a year old yet. I know that means little with the rate new tech comes out.

Your 1090T@4ghz should be more than good enough. No need to worry about that.

If you're not too bothered about antialising, or running upcoming games at their maximum graphical settings then you should be ok, for a while.

If you wanted to run at 2 or 4xaa & max out the graphical settings in gfx intensive titles like Crysis 2 , BF3, etc... then I would consider a gfx card upgrade.

Just remember that the 7xxx series cards are due in Nov / Dec this year afaik, so if you're happy with what you have at the moment then just wait for them before considering an upgrade.
