I've got a Winfast 760GXK8MC Skt 754 Mb, 1 gig DDR 400 RAM and a Sempron 2800. I'm looking at getting a 7600 GT AGP card as well. With this setup will it be any good for playing games? Is the sempron any good for overclocking? The PC is for my niece but I want to give her something that's at least capable of running XP and today's games.

no, it wont be able to play today games that smoothly at all ( assuming ** running at med-max settings in a pretty high reso ). Even if ** not, it is best to get a more up to date rig.

These are just bits I've got left over so I was gonna build a machine out of them.

The sempron lets the system down

Have you purchased the bits yet or is it an existing system. If youve not yet purchased then do you have a budget in mind? If you already have them then maybe try and find a skt 754 athlon 64. Failing that go for an asrock dual 939 mobo and a cheapo 939 3000+ :)

I've already got all the bits, it was from a course I did a while ago. I'll probably just use the bits to make up a work machine for the Mrs.

It all depends on the games your niece plays, excuse me if im being sexist.. but i'm guessing she isn't going to be running around shooting stuff much... if that is the case, it's not a bad pc, although it is let down by the sempron a fair bit..

Agreed, if they are going to play simple games, older games such as ones you can pick up for a fiver then just build the one your going to build. However if she is going to play games like BF2, Oblivion and what not you need a better build by far, if you want all of the eye candy and it running smoothly of course.

i would say get yourself a cheap 3700+, overclock it, and get the cheapest 7900GS for £97 ( or buy them second hand and you should be able to get it a lot cheaper.) members market is your friend :)

he cant see MM

It will be more than capable of running XP, and will run today's games (albeit quite slowly for some of them).

If it's her first PC she'll be delighted. Most people on here (including me) have been gaming on PC for ages and have quite standards, but she won't know any better.
