Is this sound card any good for gaming?

Hello.

My friend has this soundcard to give me "Creative Labs USB Sound Blaster Live! 24bit External Model SB0490". I am just wondering if this card is actually any good for gaming?

Right now i am using onboard AC'97 sound and in newer games i am encountering sound problems (stuttering etc) which i am assuming is because there is too much strain on my CPU from the onboard sound. Im only on an A64 3000+ see.

Anyway im just wondering because this card is external and connects via USB, which also uses a bit of CPU power right? So any info please.

Pretty cheap that. I will consider it.

Although my friend is offering this external for free since he never uses it. Would it help with sound performance at all?

I guess i'll just try it once i get my hands on it. That thing is well old though

Well if its not costing you anything it cant hurt to try it
