Thought I would open this up to the collective...

I received a text yesterday which read "Hi dan only me. Do you have plans for [my wife's name] this weekend?".

Whoever wrote the text managed to spell my wife's name correctly, which is fairly unusual. They also referred to me as "dan" - I am always known as Daniel except to close friends - which could be an indication of something (or nothing).

The mobile number from which the message came is not recognised by either of us - we're fairly certain it is not a relative and we cannot think of any friends who would message me in that way. It is not a local mobile provider (local to Jersey that is) but does seem to be an UK number. Putting it into Google comes up with the name Dane Hughes which is not familiar to either of us.

So, is it likely to be a spam message and, if so, what are they looking to gain?!

I suppose I could text them back but I do not particularly want to confirm anything to the person who sent the message as yet!

Just reply "Sorry, who is this?" or put the number into Facebook (if that still works) and see if anyone pops up.

Clearly, Mr You-Don't-Wanna-Do-It-Like-That has plans to roger your wife senseless, if you don't have plans with her.;)
