Is this spec ok for gaming and is it all compatible, I'd hate to buy it all and then only to find out that when I'm building it the graphics cards wont go in this motherboard etc:
  • Corsair 2GB DDR XMS4400 Pro TwinX (2x1GB) CAS3 (MY-101-CS)

  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA4400CDBOX) (CP-127-AM)

  • Abit AT8-32X ATI RD580 Crossfire (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-094-AB)

  • Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (3056) (GX-047-CO)

  • ATI Radeon X1900 ***Crossfire Edition*** 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-045-CO)

  • Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music - Retail (SC-034-CL)

  • Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 300GB 6L300R0 ATA-133 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-048-MD)

  • Akasa Rounded Ultra ATA133/100/66 IDE Cable (0.45m) - Blue (CB-041-GE)

  • Akasa Ultra Quiet 550W PowerPlus Active PFC ATX2.0 PSU - Black Nickel (CA-014-AK)

  • Antec Super LANBOY Aluminum Super Mini Tower Case - No PSU (CA-012-AN)

  • BenQ FP202W 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black (MO-014-BQ)

I'm a hardcore gamer and I need the best. I'm not rich though, but I can afford whats listed above. Please let me know if I have missed anything, and also is this monitor HD ready? because I want HD. And will the graphics cards be fine with that motherboard?

Cheers in advance,

Looks like a decent rig. I would change the hard drive to any other brand but Maxtor as they have been have reliability issues lately. The mobo should come with all the cables you need, so you may want to ditch them. Any reason why you want the PC4400 RAM? Looking for a mega overclock or something? I would also change the power supply unit to something like Tagan, Seasonic or FSP :)

change the mobo to the asus xfire mobo, abit suck. :(

that case will get far too hot with x1900's, something bigger like an ecplise.

G.Skill 2GB DDR ZX PC3200 (2x1GB) CAS2 Dual Channel Kit (F1-3200PHU2-2GBZX) (MY-007-GS) - mem
very low latency, good ram.

if your after a 300gb drive then i suggest
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-078-SE), bigger, faster, cheaper, longer warrenty and more reliable.

power supply, tagan 580w- inaudable and super stable and can power xfire properly.

and as for the previous comment, im guessing if he went for sli, he would be a nvidia fanboy?

Thanks for your help so far.

I thought PC4400 RAM was needed for this type of motherboard, and also that it was faster then PC3200?

Also I really wanted to get that motherboard because Its part of an OCUK bundle with that ram and cpu. The main thing am worried about is buying it all seperate and then finding out when I'm building it that the ram doesnt work with the motherboard or the graphics card or something.

Cheers for help,

A64s run faster on PC3200 memory with low latencies like 2-2-2-5 than PC4400 with 3-4-4-8.

they love it for some reason i cant remember.

I see. Well I didnt know that, ok I guess i'll have to get it all seperate then. Well which is the best motherboard to get on the site for gaming?

Thanks,

Also I was thinking about 3gigs of ram? Will it increase speed?

Stick with 2GB to avoid complications. You don't need that PC4400 RAM, just get normal PC3200 RAM e.g. OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2 (MY-057-OC)

mate, did you even read my post? :(

Yeh you said get asus xfire mobo but which one?

I read all your post, because when you replied and said which case and ram to get etc, I thought ok yeh I'll get the ones you mentioned.

I read everyones post. Am sat right here. Cheers for your help so far.

EDIT
Did you mean Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe Crossfire (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-131-AS)

because I can only see two and the other one looks crap.

Scary.

I'm not taking the pi$$, but if I were spending so much on a new PC I'd take a little time reading these forums and learning about "all things PC" before splashing the cash. It really will be worth it, the more you learn before your purchase the less problems you'll have later on.

My apologies if I sound patronising.

Best of luck.

Sounds great! If you're interested in overclocking however then go for the dfi board and pair it with an opty 170 - great clockers. Otherwise a pretty much faultless system.

I hope you haven't forgotten your CD/DVD drives, and I assume you are using the stock heatsink/fan for the CPU as you are buying the retail pack?

You may also want to check that your existing speakers are compatible with the Xi-Fi, as you haven't mentioned buying any new ones. I seem to remember thats some speakers had compatibility problems.

Well the main reason I posted was just for compatibility issues, I can build a PC fine, but I dont know anything about technology like the members of this forum.

So I like posting here so that you can tell me where I am going wrong with the parts I am choosing, and helping me to build a PC which is compatible.

What I am scared about the most is for example, lets say I am building the PC, and when I'm finished I turn it on and nothing happens. I would be gutted if it was because of the ram or CPU, or graphics card, because they didnt work with the motherboard I had chosen. So I really need your help to make sure this doesnt happen to me. I would be gutted if this happened.

And I didnt mention which DVD drives I was getting because I didnt think it mattered, and thanks for letting me know about that sound card issue. well no I wasn't going to buy any new speakers as of yet. Is this sound card good for gaming? because I dont want to get a sound card which will slow down my games. Is there one out there which is recommended and which all you guys use?

And will this "Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-078-SE)" be fine for gaming? I really want everything built around games.

Also what about the 3gigs ram? some of you said its pointless, but you dont understand, I really want this machine built and ready for unreal 3 and future games. Can I not get 3 gigs of ram which is really fast and will fit in the chosen motherboard?..."Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe Crossfire (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-131-AS)".

EDIT: I also forgot to mention, I've never overclocked before, I dont know how to do it, and dont really want to do it, because I've heard of problems. I just want to buy a good spec that works as standard.

Also when I said I am building this for games, that also intails hosting games. Like not big servers, just like me and 3 or 4 friends playing coop games together like bf2 athena sword etc.

Thanks,

SkScotchegg :D

Yeah, thus causing game performance to slow down etc. So get 2GB as that is what's best. :) Games don't use the total 2GB anyway but they use more than 1GB like BF2, so 3GB is not needed mate.
