Hi - would a Q9450, Corsair Dominator PC2-8500, and a gtx470 run FSX comfortably (with the add-ons)? I know it's outdated hardware but it's only a temp system until I can upgrade to an i7 around xmas time.

Difficult to say as comfortably means a lot of different things. Will you be able to ahieve 30 fps locked in all scenarios...no. I would recommend overclocking your CPU as much as possible and setting up FSX as per "kostas" guide. You should be able to get fairly smooth flight. My system in sig gets pretty good performance and can fly almost anywhere but still get drops down to 15 fps flying around Seatle (ORBX FTX) with medium cloud cover. As for an upgrade, remember fsx doesn't utilise hyperthreading so an i5-3570K will be suffice. Personally waiting to see what Haswell brings. The GTX470 will be fine.
