Sony KDL37W5500U 37" Digital Full HD 1080p 100hz LCD TV

Is this a good upgrade from my current 720p 26 inch Samsung? Or nah? Is the bigger tele the more epic when gaming?

Gaming is only 720p anyway.

I paid £630 in June for an LG LH3000 47 inch. All the 100hz, 200hz etc don't make THAT much difference and are a relatively new thing so tv's with it on a usually charged a premium.

Most will say get a 42inch Panasonic. I only got an LCD as I game 70% of the time.

Some PS3 games output in 1080p I know they are mainly upscaled. I think wipeout renders in 1080p but can't be bothered to look it up :p plus if you have a PS3, almost all blu-rays are 1080p

Get the 42". I guarantee you will laugh at the size of it the day you have it, be used to it within less than a week. A short while after, you will be in a shop and see a 47" or 50" and think "maybe I should have gone bigger"

42" Panasonic is my vote as i'm a panny fanboy. Go for plasma if you plan to use it for movies a lot or just go for the cheaper LCD if you're only gonna game.

Exactly what happened when I got my 42" panny

Agreed, P42G10 Panasonic is what I got, and appears in a similar price bracket to the Sony in the original post. I typically sit 2m away from the TV for films, and it looks small to me, and I sit about 1m away for gaming and it's just right for myself.

Check out avforums.co.uk, you'll get a great deal of info for TV options.

But forgetting quality, does a bigger screen generally make gaming more epic?

using a 42" Tosh LCD and find games to be disappointing if i have to play them now on a smaller screen.

i originally thought that any thing above 42" would be to big for my room. wish't i'd gone 46"/50", next time for sure......

woah woah woah, why are you looking at a sony, they are so overpriced, you can get a samsung, panasonic, lg etc etc that will be cheaper and in most cases be better.

unless of course you've found one thats got a shed load of money off.

here's a Samsung LE40B530 for £498, 1080p 60,000:1 contrast ratio etc etc

Personally i wouldnt get the samsung, i bought one a couple of years ago and the sound quality gets rubbish very fast, very tinny and it resonates all the time too. Very annoying. Was the same with my parents older samsung too. Ended up plugging my PC speakers into the headphone socket, much better now :) Next time round im probably going to go with the masses and get a Panny :)

i have a 1080p 50" screen downstairs and a 1080p 32" in my bedroom

prefer to play on the 32" as its a lot more crisper, though still awesome on either

thats with the ps3
