Is this the age old question?

Hi all,

Built myself a new PC last weekend, and it is amazing. It really is absolutely incredible the specs you can pick up for a low cost when you build yourself.

The downside is now my old LG E1490 19 Inch montior feels wholly inadequate. So I have a question that is twofold if you could all be so lovely as to advise me.

1.
I sit at a standard size desk when using my computer for web browsing and video games, and when I watch a film or TV, I have a TV hanging on my wall that I can watch from my bed. I'm trying to decide between a 27 and 24 inch monitor. Is 27 going to be just too big for close up gaming and browsing? I get the feeling that it really will be purely because I remember trying to use a 26inch TV as a monitor a number of years ago and it was the reason I bought my 19 inch LG!

2.
My funds are rather limited at the minute. Is there a monitor out there in the recommended size from above for approximately £150 that will do me a nice job when playing things like DayZ, League of Legends, and Battlefield 4?

Thanks in advance for any help guys, this is the first time I've ever really put any thought into a monitor so I definitely need some help!

Cheers,

Rich

Both have good response times and are good gaming options. Without spending more Im not sure what other recommendations I can make.

hi ndaar,

Thanks for the response, I kinda knew to be honest that a 27 would likely be out of my current budget. Do you have any opinions however on the screen perhaps being too big considering that my face lives about 2 feet from it during an average gaming session? Otherwise I might start getting screen size envy and just blow my budget!

I was also looking at the VE248H as an option. In what way is this supposed to be "superior" to the VE247h?

If I were to ask you what you would consider the best "value for money" 24inch monitor paying a little less attention to my budget, how would your reccomendation change?

And finally for this round of questioning, have you any experience with the BENQ GL2450HM and how it compares to other monitors?

Sorry for all the questions!

I dont have experience of sitting that close to a 27" monitor im afraid. I currently game on a 24" monitor on my desk.

The Ve248 & Ve247 have slightly different colour depth and brightness I think, not sure there is a huge difference.

If money was taken out there are a number of great 24" monitors such as:

Both are great monitors and good gaming options.

No experience of the BENQ however here is a thing I found online:

You get used to pretty much any any size of monitor when you use it for a bit. The difference does not feel huge between 24 and 27. For your budget I would go for 24 though

I think 27 is ok, my desk is tiny and I currently use a 24. I had a 27 before and it wasn't too much a difference.

There was a brief period when i used a 32 inch tv as monitor *cough*, now i almost went blind for a sec!

I've had 19" 23" 24"27" monitors and 32" and 42" TVs.i presently have a27" iMac.

I now have settled on a24" PC gaming monitor but use the mac for photo and web surfing etc.

If you just use the 24" after a few days it will feel just right I'm sure.a nice balance but if I didn't play games I'd go for the 27" size with a higher resolution.

Thanks for all the info guys.

I actually ended up going way off track, blowing my budget and picked up a BenQ XL2411T.

I felt that if I didn't get 120Hz there'd always be something in the back of my mind nagging.

It arrives today so I'm very excited!
