OK so the latest of many problems ive got with a new build has turned out to be
my monitor seems to keep loosing signal, it doesnt seem to have 1 cause, one time i was trying to install a couple of drivers from my netowork card another it was browsing the web another it was downloading from the web another was just browsing through files on the hard drive

What happens is that my minitor looses signal and then within 2 seconds re aquires the signal and promptly looses it again on a loop after about 3 mins of this the re aquire time slows down its almost as though the monitor is turning itself on and off but the power remains on.

The system is
Case: antec 900
Mobo: MSI P55-GD65
CPU: Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz (Lynnfield)
Video card: saphire radeon hd4890
RAM: Corsair Dominator 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz
HDD: Seagate barracuda 7200.12 250GB
PSU: corsair tx750W
OS: Windows XP pro 64 bit edition

also card related im worried about the temp of the card, some parts of the card seem to be heating up excessively ill post a gpu-z screenshot if i manage to catch one with the 1st problem im having.

I would have laughed but this had now been the 67th problem ive encountered since i built the machine 4 days ago and my sanity is wearing very thin.

I just dont know why this is being so difficult when my previous machine whihc was my 1st ever self build didnt have a single problem

sounds like a faulty card to me, try using a different display port on the back of your card, or even different cable if it's a particularly old one.

the fact that you lose your display and the card heats up randomly suggests it's a buggy card, could be any number of issues about the card. I would RMA it back to o/cUK and have them test it.

Alternatively you could test the card in a different machine to see whether the problem persists.

Ive tried a different cable and port problem still persists and i bought a new cable yesterday.

The card doesnt heat up randomly

these 3 parts reach temps in excess of 60 degrees now when idle.
the top of the card as the picture lies isnt that much cooler

So far ive RMA'd the ram from the 1st order now the card im wondering if the motherboard or the cpu will be next

can you not check the monitor on another pc or if you got a tv with VGA or DVI input and see if its loosing signal.

tried reseating the card and reinstalling the drivers but that didnt seem to fix the problem, i dont have another card so i thought i would format the drive and start again only to find that i couldnt install windows this time.

With all the problems ive been having i decided to take it to a shop and get them to take a look at it and perhaps explain to me why.

I suspect the graphics port, are you using Dvi, are there two Dvi ports on the graphics card and have you tried both of them. Or a faulty port on the monitor, is it Dvi or vga? or both and when you connected the monitor to a laptop was it vga?

It was DVI i was using but going though a dvi to vga adapter, i had been using this cbale for almost 2 years on my old machine so i doubt that would be the problem.

It also has a HDMI output which i tested out and that produced the same results signal contantly gained and lost over and over.

The machine is at a lets say less than local repair shop (dont trust PC world) and i should hear back from them within 2-3 days.
