I have been driven crazy for about a week now with a stupid scratching sound that's randomly coming out my PC speakers. (note it's not the 'explorer click') I've been scanning the registry, checking for virus's, trojans malware etc, checking processes, window sounds all sorts. Even took me an hour or so to google the result which I just found out. Now I've found out what it is I am dumfounded with the sheer lameness.
The stupid windows Search box with the dog. Every so often, for no apparent reason he scratches himself! Randomly. He doesn't even make any other sounds like whining or anything. And it happens so quick you gotta be watching that sob like a hawk.
The reason I have never came across this 'amazingly cute' feature is one of the first things I do on XP is turn of n00b search . But this laptop I have left pretty much everything at default. Man MS sucks hard. I'd like to personally castrate whoever came up with this BS.

Just in case anyone else is unfortunate enough to get pumped by this thing..
