Is this the screen or the cable at fault??

Is this a screen problem or the ribbon video cable? The color changes depending on what is on the screen and does show up in the BIOS, so it's a hardware issue

Any comments gratefully received

Thanks, will try an external monitor when I can
Sadly the cable is much more difficult to change than the screen

Hi, no it doesn't change at all. I don't think it's the card as it doesn't show up on an external monitor, so the card is putting out a good signal

It's a laptop LCD so it doesn't heat up much
The color changes according to what is on the screen, but in the same small band at the bottm, so if it's a white page of Word then it will be lighter, on a dark grey background it goes green

Some laptops have a display test mode that they can enter during the boot - you'd probably have to look up what keys to press. If you can get something that's displayed only by the monitor that covers that section, and the problem is still there, then you'd know the monitor was at fault.

There's a Toshiba diagnostic program which I ran but it didn't test the screen like I need
I have ordered a new screen and hope it's that, it's an easy fix, the cable requires almost complete disassembly and would be a pain
