Hi guys. Repairing a laptop atm and I've taken 2 white bits of protective tape off the grey bits on each contact point. At first glance it looks like the grey bits are tape as well but then looking closer it has the same look as thermal paste. Anyone any idea? If anything it looks like thermal paste but one that looks like it can be peeled back. Though Im not sure that's a good idea!

Ok I've just realised there is such a thing as thermal paste I've installed a desktop cup with it on before I'd just forgotten about it lol

It's thermal paste just pre applied neatly and looks like a thermal pad, AMD/Intel heatsinks have similar stuck on the bottom.

they are thermal pads they dont look like them.

its not thermal paste applied in a neat square you buy an actual square thermal pad, intel/amd use them because its idiot proof and they can be pre attached to heatsinks unlike paste

once they have reached a certain temprature and they have cured they look like paste because they melt a bit
