is this timing difference worth £30?

Depends on whether you're intending to overclock the memory past its stock speed. CAS 4 memory will clock better than CAS 5.

well i would be overclocking it, however i wouldn't mind running a divider on the ram. But would the difference between speed when overclocked be worth the £30 difference?

Thanks

Black dragon 8Gb kits by any chance? If so then my experience is they both clock the same more or less and the 8Gb C5 will do 4-4-4-11 with ease.

For me, no. I think its the exact same RAM, if you look at the voltages suggested it may give you a clue why the CAS 4 kit is rated as such :D

C5 Working Voltage: 1.8V
C4 Working Voltage: 2.0V

manufacturer overclock anyone? :D

YMMV but 2 kits for me have clocked just about the same, never carried it to the extreme but got 900MHz+ speeds CAS 5 on both at 2.1v

Short answer is no. Spending an extra £30 elsewhere will gain you more performance than slightly tighter memory timings.

It's always nice to have 4-4-4-12 memory vs 5-5-5-15 but *most* of the time you can adjust the latter to tighter timings (not guaranteed). If the price difference was £5.00 to £10.00 then maybe I would spend the extra but £30 is too high a premium for me personally. . .

Got another 8Gb setup here and built today, currently running fine at 430MHz 4 4 4 11 @ 1.85v, pretty good for 8gb of CAS 5 rated stuff ;)
