Is this too hot?

I've got my Q6600 running at 3Ghz, I ran IBT on max and my core temps went all the way up to 81 degrees. To me, that'd seem a little too toastie. My case should have ample cooling, CM stacker with 3x120mm intakes, 1x120mm and 80mm exhaust, running with a Zalman CNPS7000C-CU.

Ideas?

Yes, that is hot but IBT is an insane little app and nothing will come close to stressing the CPU to that degree in everyday computing/gaming. (But that is a 'little' high so you should check it out.)

What are temps under load when gaming etc..?

You could also test prime95 and see what temp results you get with that. Don’t leave it running for hrs just run it for a few minutes and see what the cpu peaks at - use Real Temp to monitor the cores and see if there are any large differences between them.

When I was running OCCT it was 68-71, when I was running IBT on the default setting it was 71... So IBT at max would absolutely cain it making it 10 degrees higher you think?

I'm not sure when gaming, I only play WoW, I'm sure idiling in Dalaran can't be too taxing, but I'll check when I get in.

Is the Q6600 a G0 or B3, the CNPS7000C-CU isnt really up to keeping an overclocked Q6600 cool when running maximum stress tests, its more a cooler designed for Dual Core cpus. It'll be fine for gaming or something less extreme :)

From reading your other temps, when using other stress tests, your temps seem fine.

As i mentioned before - IBT is an insanely brutal app and if the temps recorded in IBT are not simulated in 'other' stress tests you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Tis a g0. So you don't think I should push it any further then? I have got a cm geminii which I was going to use for another project, but that means I won't be able to use my flex 2 with it :/

I think for normal gaming you shuold be able to push it to 3.2/3.4 and your temps shouldnt max more than in the 60°s with that cooler, just don't do any extended distributed computing on it :)

clearly WoW does absolutely bugger all in the way of CPU, my temps are what they are only 40-48 degrees. Just been doing some dailies in icecrown and nothing... I have heard that WoW is mainly about how much RAM you throw at it though.

Hah, so was playing about with stressing my CPU before I headed out to work. I thought I'd leave orthos running whilst I was in the shower, but, I forgot I left it running so it'll be running for about 13hrs heh. At least it'll show if the oc is stable!

umm left mine running prime95 on my Q6600 OC to 3.2 ghz while I went to work, cores were at 70-75C when I left ...you lot have me well worried now.
