Hi all,

Long and short of it I got caught using a hand held device, I have to produce documents within 7 Days, I was caught in Oct 2012 doing 37 in a 30 zone but I havnt yet declared these on my policy.

Do I need to make adjustments before I go to the station?

Also just read this comment online, not sure how true it is?

4.2.2 A conviction obtained during the policy

Insurers have a duty to inform you within your policy documents of your obligations in terms of disclosing any changes to your circumstances.

Unless there is a explicit condition in your policy, you do not have to disclose convictions obtained during a policy, until your next renewal.

Is this true?

Just tried amending my policy through Quotemehappy for the 3 points I had back in Oct, they are going to up my policy by £6 per month and they are asking me to pay my £46 right now to make the change? where as my billing date is usually the 13th of every month :\

Then I am going to have to declare the 3 points I had from todays CU80 incident which I am not sure how much extra thats going to put on

I am with Churchill and just notified them of 3 points on my licence...they said it wont affect my policy now but may cost me a bit extra when I renew in August.

I'm with quote me happy i went to edit details to put the points I had in 2012 and they pushed up the price and wanted me to pay there by direct debit??

I get billed on the 13th of every month

I really hate these people, they were cheap at the time oh well

This is probably more to do with sending you an accurate quote when it comes to renewal time, rather than get the quote and have to phone them and say by the way I have 3 points now.

Great, just tried adding the points to my insurance cover (amending my drivers details) now quote me happy are saying....

Sorry, you are not eligible for Quote Me Happy cover.

WTF??

So now I have to look for another insurance policy, and start from the beginning, and basically lose the money (deposit etc) that I have paid to quotemehappy?

Doesn't that mean you've technically had your insurance cancelled? Which, I should add, needs to be declared when you apply for any other insurance.

Not sure, trying to somehow get hold of quote me happy, doesnt help when you cant ring them!

I am trying to declare the points through my quote me happy policy, however when I do, it says

"Date cannot be in the future"

The dates are NOT in the future, then underneath it says quotemehappy cant cover you on this policy

I am angry to say the least.

Theres no point just trying to get another quote to see how this will effect you, Have a look through your policy it will tell you if you need to declare the points and if so how to do it. If it doesn't then you can only assume that you dont have to do anything (but make sure you read it properly)

I dont think I would ever go to an insurer that I could not speak to on the phone if needed.
They must have a claims line? have you tried calling that?

They have a claims line but purely just for claims, I have having a read through my documentation now and have emailed them.

I didnt know it was email only for general enquiries as you can control most of your editing over the web, it was only after I joined that I noticed it.

According to the documentation, it has to be declared as soon as possible.

I would declare it as soon as possible, a friend of ours (not the most car savvy i have to say) went 2 years without telling his insurers about 3 points he had, then when he came to rewew it again he told them and they backdated all the extra insurance cost to the time of the points.

Well if QuoteMeHappy are no longer going to insure me, then I guess I wont be declaring it to them.....

Just done a quick compararison from a site, declaring my points, and trying the option that I have had my insurance cancelled.

My quotes have gone from £450 (what it used to be) to just shy of £1k

Ouch! Considering the severity of the reason for getting the points that's not so bad though? I had 1 non fault and 1 fault claim several years ago which bumped my premium to £2k for the following year and that was the cheapest...on a Honda Civic 1.5

Just phone them. If the only number listed on your documentation is the claims line, phone that and ask the person on the other end of the phone

£2k is ridiculous

But driving is expensive enough as it is.

What makes it more annoying is that I only have to wait until April this year, and I can basically minus 3 points of any insurance declarations.

I could do without having to pay the extra costs to be honest at the moment.

Yeah these things happen at less than ideal times. At least now you'll be more aware of what not to do next time - An expensive lesson of sorts :p

Trying not to sound too preachy, but the points and associated increase in insurance are there as a deterrent.......... so, pay more attention to the speed limit and the speed you're going if you can't afford the cost associated with being caught?

Not going down the whole child killer thing, but just man up and accept that youve been caught so its going to cost you
