thinking of upgrading from my sig to this combo

  1. Asus P5Q3 Deluxe @ Wifi-N Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard £129.99 (£152.74)
  2. Corsair 4GB DDR3 DHX 1600C9DHX Twin3X (2x2GB) (TW3X4G1600C9DHX) £117.99 (£138.64)
  3. Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 "Toxic" 512MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail £189.99 (£223.24)

i know people have mentioned DDR3 hasn't much advantage over DDR2 but i'm also thinking for next years Nehalem upgrade.

What are peoples views on this?

but i'm also thinking for next years Nehalem upgrade.
Which requires also new motherboard and then price of DDR3 might hace come crashing down.

Graphic card is only real bottleneck in your current configuration, updating others would be waste of your money and environment.

cheers for the advise guys.

i know i'm in desperate need for a graphics upgrade but didn't know if going from a P35 to P45 would help also?

maybe not go DDR3 but the P5Q series DDR2 P45. Would i see a bennefit from this seeing as it's also PCI 2.0 and not 1.1. with the P35?

No, a new mobo wouldn't do you a great deal of good, if any, and DDR3 is not worth the money either. To be honest, if you have that much cash to spend get a 4870x2. If I were you, though, I would just get the 4870 and be happy :)
