A mate of mine is thinking of buying the following pre-built PC, he has built his own PC's for many years but seems a little fed up and dosn't want to bother again as his last one has been a pain the last few months.
It does have a lot of software that goes with it but I carn't find the link and it's not a Dell. For that money I would want an i7 myself, he also has two new 500gig HDD's and DVD that he could use.

The xxxxxxxxxxxxxx gaming desktop offers an outstanding gaming experience for users who play games for the fun of facing impossible challenges and overcoming limits that would otherwise be insurmountable.

The xxxxxxxxxxxxxx is an original, aggressive chassis design which conceals the latest generation technologies. An overclocking top range processor, an impressive 4GB of DDR2 800 memory and 2x NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GTX graphics cards kept in check by a liquid cooled core.

For best gaming performance, the xxxxxxxxxxxxxx offers NVIDIA nForce 780th SLI MCP chipset which is 3-way SLI capable while also supporting the last CPU generation. The n-Tune overclocking utility offers a simple process instead of the traditionally complex process of overclocking CPU, RAM and graphics cards so you do not need to restart the PC after each variation. In addition, a liquid cooling system that guarantees perfect system operation and stability without overheating, even after overclocking, without compromising maximum possible.

so it's:
q9550 @ stock
4gb ddr2
9800GTX (sli?)
whatever generic mobo
blue ray drive

for £1300? lol.

Hahaha!!! :D

You could get an i7 rig for that money!!!

TBH i'd build one regardless of past problems - indeed, if he has had issues before then he should take a closer look at what he's doing wrong and fix it. Would save him a lot of money!

I am a little out of touch with PC hardware but have been researching an upgrade recently. Based on that I would say the above is a little overpriced. Especially if he has some components he can reuse, why spend extra on more of them?

Tell him to just buy all the parts seperately then at least he knows that they are all compatable. Get 4gb ocz platinum ram and put 2 ati 4870's in it!

I think that would be cheaper than £1300.

Make it a pretty good PC

Cheers guys it didn't do it for me either, I'll give him a bell tonight and try and get him to change his mind.

As for his Current build it was fine for just over 12months but has started to just freeze. He hasn't been able to do any tests as it locks up before completion. Even installing the OS is a trial and has to be done many times because of random errors.

His Fan on the CPU came loose and he replaced it but even that didn't fix the problem, he's tried swapping the memory which didn't help either. As he's no more parts to try he would have to guess at the problem and buy parts.

Anyway thanks for the help.
