Is this worth the upgrade?

Current Spec in sig.

Thinking of going P35-DS3R (or similar model) & E6750.

Current rig has been running 3Ghz stable for a while, but just feel like doing an upgrade for some reason.

Is the performance boost worth £150?

Personally i would say no it's not worth it. The E6750 should clock further than the E4300 but it's getting on a bit now. The E8200 is the same price as the E6750 and would be a better buy. I still don't think it would be worth it though. Nehalem will be out at the end of the year and will require a new socket so i would wait until then.

Can't the E4300 go any further? I have one that did 3.4Ghz in a DS3P.
 
Had it at 3.2Ghz. But dropped it back to 3Ghz. I seem to remember 3.2 was its limit while still being stable. So I knocked it back more for peace of mind really.

I'm terrible to be honest, sometimes I just get the itch to upgrade, despite deep down knowing its not worth the bother. :p
 
Didn't really want to run it constantly at its limit, guess i'm trying to achieve longevity :)

Thought about the extra RAM - but i've heard of people having issues in XP with 4GB.
 
What longevity?? ;) You want to upgrade when you have no reason to. :P

as for 4gb in xp i was running that without a prob but if you do have prob with it then remove gig or 2 and keep it till you upgrade to vista one day
with the prices of the ram atm you not gonna go wrong
