I'm tying myself in knots with the different 24" panels, I've looked at the OCUK panel and it looks alright but it isn't just about a cheap VA panel for me, its the whole monitor package I'm after, the looks, nice colors, quality build standard, etc...

So my question is, is getting a more expensive TN panel such a bad thing after all? I'm going to be sat right in front of it after all, I don't really need 180 degree viewing angles.

Current panel in signature.

Oh, and can anyone recommend a good panel?

well your VX912 is TN Fillm based, so characteristics should be similar. TN Film is pretty good in many regards nowadays, but the viewing angles can be frustrating, especially at this size. Take note of my comments about the viewing angles of the SM245B here, I think that's the only thing you're going to need to be wary of in your use.

Baddass is right.

TN offers many benefits most notable being value and panel response speed. As he said the reduced viewing angles combined with larger screens can be problematic and their colour reproduction isn't normally the best or most accurate either. TN's are usually better for gaming on while graphical and photographic work benefits from IPS and PVA type panels.

That said, i have a Hyundai 24" TN and it's been a great purchase. Would personally love something slightly larger but as TN's go i've found it pretty darn good.

Mmm...I suppose thats my problem, my only experience with TN is a 19", so it looks worse the bigger the screen?

Actually, i even found my 22" TN to be quite bad for viewing angles. It would only really take a slow steady slouch in a chair and everything i was editing was slowly going off. And the bigger the screen, the less you have to move to notice it. Noway i'de go for a 24" TN.

However full screen gaming, as you tend to be a little more upright and into it, it was lovely. Also as something constantly moving and colourful fills the screen, it's a lot harder to notice.
