... as good as buying a mobo with a chipset that natively supports the changes.

Let me explain, my 680i abit needs a BIOS update in order to make use of 45nm processors, now would the update make the 680i chipset as good as say the X38 chipset using a 45nm. OR would the 680i be slower due to the fact 45nm CPUs weren't around when it was created!?

Also, would the 45nm CPUs be as overclockable on a 680i as on a 780i?

To be basic, updating the Bios just allows the mobo to recognise the new chip, it would be difficult to carry out a direct mobo to mobo comparison as other factors may come into play.
