Clutch cable gone today and trying to price one up and here are the prices so far...

Peuegot (Genuine OEM made by Dura) £36.92
Autofactor 1 (Quinton Hazel) £21.36
Autofactor 2 (Veco) £16.90

I really want to try and source a Dura part cheaper but would like any imput on either Veco or QH? I want a good quality part that will last...

QH are decent enough parts, what car is it for? (year/engine) and what part of the cable?

306 GTI-6 1998 2.0 16v - Clutch cable - Genuine part number is 2150T4. I understand you work for a motorfactors ;)

I've never heard of Veco - Are u sure it's not Valeo?

No :) They are the genuine OEM for the clutch though ;) Veco parts are on ebay and I have found their website. Dont look that big though :P

Hmm I might get the QH one for a few quid more because 16 quid sounds a bit cheap to me.

I paid about £18 for mine from an autofactors, I think it was a Valeo one too.

QH are generaly good, but had a bad experience with clutch cables on my Astra; the first QH cable I bought lasted 3 weeks, the replacement lasted a month. Got refund and bought genuine cable and it was still fine when I sold the car a couple of years later.

May have been a dodgy batch, I sell lots of QH cables and had few few very returns, got one fitted myself.

Nathan - If that QH cable price is inc VAT, its a very good price. If its ex VAT its still not bad at all. OEM parts on many French cars are made by Valeo. Also if the jobs anything like my 106GTi, i'd get someone to do, its a serious PITA!

that was including VAT yes. They are very well priced. Got a valeo clutch from them for the 106 gti (brothers) for 85 notes which was waaay cheap. Going to get the Veco one, for 16 notes. See how it is. If it goes, then I ll take it back and get a refund. And moss, yes its a PITA just like the 106, though worse as there are aircon pipes in the way :( Dad is on call duty for later though ;)

Keep going where your going, they are very good prices!
Post here once you finished the clutch cable, remember you cant swear ;) I felt like smashing the car up half way through fitting mine :o

I always put genuine clutch cables on 205's because aftermarket ones were crap and used to snap on me. No idea if the same applies for the 306.

Same for R19 16Vs... such a PITA to change that I will always pay a few extra quid for a genuine Renault one as 3rd party ones just dont go the distance.

Ive found on most French cables (well peugeot/citroen) its the plastic clip on the pedal that generally goes.

Update: Done and dusted.

The veco part turned out to the genuine one!!! Dura, same part code as the one in pug but for 16 quid so I was well chuffed. An absolute pig of a job, took me and dad 1 hour and 20 min with a break inbetween. So nice and light now, smiles all round :) apart from the **** design. They really should have made it easier :(
