Vista was touted to be the new reason for a hardware buying spree, manufacturers went overboard producing/stocking up on ram for example.

Vista didn't have the expected impact hence some well cheap DDr2 ram available, and calls from the consumer to put Windows Xp back into the shopping basket for laptops and desktop pcs.

What do you think?

It's another of many possible and highly feasible theories. I was thinking it was due to DDR3 until people started saying that it wouldn't affect us in any great way until 2008.

However if they made lots of DDR2 in anticipation of a massive surge in demand caused by Vista, they're not waiting long for it to kick in considering Vista's only been available to home consumers for a couple of months. I don't think they'd panic and offload based on three months of Vista sales figures. I think 90% of the influence comes from the price of raw materials and processing expenses.
