Is wanting an 850CSI a bad thing? Should I call a doctor?

After trawling through PistonHeads, the interweb, YouTube, etc. and looking at prices, I seem to have compeltely falling for this obnoxious BMW.

Yes, it's huge, heavy, not that fast and will make me cry because it uses so much petrol, but I think it looks awesome and the V12 sounds awesome.

Somebody tell me I'm an idiot and should concentrate on getting something else for the money?

It's about £15k for a very nice example.

No, I think they are a fabulous piece of machinery - but I'd hate to be paying the bills when anything major went wrong.

I love them always have, but I really don't see them being a good buy for £15k unless a) £15K isnt a lot of money to you, and b) its not your only car!

I'd love one too but if you spend £15k on one you're really going to have to look after it which I fear will be seriously painful on the wallet.

I'd compromise and buy an 840i for 1/3rd the price. If something major goes wrong, cut your losses and eBay it to an enthusiast. Much less risky IMO.

Mate, that in the Alpina guise of B12 5.0/5.7 is my DREAM car!!!!

You are not an idiot, you have taste and you would look the dogs in such a car. Expect a lot of "in the know" people to give you pleanty of nods and thumbs up!

The 850CSI was one of the first of its kind....WOW!

county, you just made me mess myself.
I hope that car is german (don't think it is though =z ) because putting german plates on it is a crime.

So, you say you'd cut your fingers off to own one, but when shown a picture you don't know whether it's German or not?

I asked a similar question prior to buying my old e38 7 Series.

Having accepted it would be expensive to run, I owned one for just over 2 years and don't regret it at all.

I was lucky, nothing major broke, but, I still spent the thick end of £2k in tyres & servicing over that time, and a 728i is CONSIDERABLY cheaper to run than an 850.

As already said, the 840 makes much more sence - the V8 engine almost makes the V12 redundant.

A car like this is not bought from a financial point of view, its done from the heart, if you bought one with your head, you would not buy it in the first place!!

Any car that does this gets my vote, I want one!:D

I don't know how you can say that they are obnoxious, they are bloody gorgeous! I have always wanted to own one but I would never be able to run it.

Neighbor has one, drives it very calmly actually but even at very low RPM it's an awesome engine sound :D.
would love to have it myself.

I'll make pics of it perhaps sometime if you want :p.
