Is Windows 10 slower and more complicated compared to Windows 7 ??

I've been using both windows 7 and 10 and lately, im starting to think windows 10 is a step forward from windows 8 but a step back from windows 7, it seam slower and something are more complicated for no reason, example making a new user.

Once I got used to the start screen on windows 8 I actually thought it was quicker than 7, I'd say 10 is on a par to 8 in terms of raw speed. So by that definition 10 is faster than 7 :)

How is making a new user more complicated... you go into control panel like before and click on user accounts like before...or you can use the modern app if you want.

Most of the things from 7 are in 10 in the same locations, you may need to access them slightly differently (right click start icon for control panel for example) but thats the only real difference outside the 'metrofication' of certain parts.

I find it quicker, also things are still in roughly the same place.

Still some odd bugs like the systray not allowing me to customise which icons display but everyday use is better/quicker.

This is the bit that i still dont like about W10 - how some of the control is desktop and some of the contol is modern - I find it a bit disjointed

Overall I like W10 though :)

I agree and I don't like the disjointed parts either but but luckily we still have most of the the old 'desktop' versions for now :)

Ironically the thing I miss the most is the old calculator, the metro one is considerably worse than the old one.

I was totally, 100% happy with W7, but have gone W10 as there will be very little choice going forward. I have put classic shell on it and turned off the cortana stuff so at least I can pretend it's W7!

Depends what you mean with slower - when its not messing about with updates and stuff 10 usually performs very well some exceptions aside and generally has better low level performance than 7 i.e. if you are using a program that is heavily threaded.

However there are quite a few areas like explorer where 10 can get very bogged down and run much slower than 7.

Overall the UI is a horrific mess - no idea how anyone can defend it unless they are so young and/or so new to PCs that Windows 8 is a large formative part of their OS experience - stuff is quite fragmented or unnecessarily obscure and just looks nasty - having now seen 10 on a Windows phone (where it does actually look good) I can understand what they were going for but on a desktop it simply lacks the aesthetically polished look of 7.

Some things are better or have the potential to be better - despite the lack of flexibility, group management options, etc. once you enable the extra tile on the start menu and strip it back and rebuild to your preferences it is a powerful tool and far better than 7's start menu but unfortunately let down by the lack of polish in the overall implementation.

EDIT: In terms of navigation to find stuff its very hit and miss (partly due to the mix of options, etc.) some stuff is very quick to get to/find other stuff is hidden away and can take longer to work with than 7.

I have the same issue,

One think I hate is having to use a email to make a user, I know you can do it without but you need to take another 3 steps to do so,

O also hate having setting and control panel, could we not just have control panel

what bonus do you get with classic shell and how can I turned off the cortana stuff

This is what I meant, Its good in some areas and other I dont see the point. I think windows 10 is still not polished and I dont like the fact windows auto sets or forces some things on you.

Windows 10 is not polished and I hate the data gathering aspect, I think windows should start off simple and should allow you to disable everything at the start.

this is why I like windows 7, it may not be as fast as windows 10 but it due not have any of the useless part to slow it down.

Indeed. It reminds me of Samsung's Touchwiz and duplicate app approach. Poor design. :/

I find Windows 10 usually performs faster than Windows 7, however it still has many bugs and niggles and feels disjointed sometimes.

Apart from the Win+X menu (added in Windows 8) I still prefer Windows 7. I could also customize the colours better. Internet Explorer also worked better in Windows 7.

i think win10 performs faster than win7... i have no issues about the UI, love the start menu with the titles. tbh i love trying new UI's and things...

the only issue i have is sometimes in IE the page won't scroll up and down using the scroll bar, also sometimes the calculator app opens in the background randomly and the system locks up until i close it in task manager.

when its not messing about with updates
gpedit (pro only) for the win, it does it when I want it do the updates after some tweaks, although it doesn't have the same finite control as win 7/8 sadly without using the MS update tool.

the calculator app opens in the background randomly
I had the opening in background part and it was down to MS Mouse and Keyboard center causing a conflict that MS is aware of but does nothing about, loads in their forum... ended up installing an older version of intellipoint because I needed it to get all my mouse features :o Was a pita to diagnose it at the time though.

I never had the locking up though...
