Is wireless really that slow ??

Hi,

Firstly literally next to my wireless router using a laptop 802.11g connecting at 54Mbps with excellent reception.

With WPA security data transfer rate i get about 300kb/sec max. With no security goes up to about 1 meg/sec.

Is that about right ?? Rarely transfer a lot of files wirelessly.

with G wireless I used to get 20-25 M/bit per second on a good day, between 6-8 times (give or take) what you are getting. Out of interest.....what router and equipment?

D-Link G604T wireless router. Def does 802.11g. Even says connected at 54mbps

I took enormous pleasure from hurling my dlink access point out the upper floor window yesterday after putting up with years of poor performance and dropouts.

Useless piece of junk. I will never never buy anything from dlink again.

I think you need to pay proper money to get something good, the cisco ap's at work are just amazing. I quite like the look of the netgear wg102, will try to get one of them next i think.
