Is Woz right?

Lots of different reports online concerning Steve Wozniak's interview. Leaving aside the iPhone X, what Steve said in a couple of interviews is that there's little new with each upgrade and upgrading every year is no longer worth it.

I think this applies to all handsets whether they be Android or iPhone. Do you think Woz is right?

I don't think we're going to see any significant improvements over the next few years except for better batteries/more powerful and less power hungry CPUs and displays.

yup fully agree. still rocking my iphone 6 and nothing really tempting me to change it just yet.

I recently upgraded to the iPhone 8 from iPhone 6, before that I had the 4S. I go for 3 years and only upgrade from there because the handset gets worn and faults appear. If my iPhone 6 was still working fine, then I would have kept it longer.

Same here. Prior to my current iPhone 6 I was on the 4. Only upgraded as the home button had given up. Current handset is still working fine.
I usually just buy the handset outright and bung in the cheapest, most suitable sim only plan knocking about so a 6-800 quid upgrade has to offer something good. I don't necessarily need it to mind blowing but I do want to be 'wowed' if you know what I mean and none of the current gen are doing that for me. So while the 6 is still going strong I'll just stick with that for now.

I was sort of "wowed" by the camera and wireless charging. But then realised it's been 3 years, and now i'm thinking "where's the rest?!".

I'll say what i said to the Chairman at work (my boss). The iPhone X should have been the mainstream model at £800 tops, the iPhone 8 the bottom end. It would have been so, and probably a year earlier, if Mr Jobs was still around, IMO. This year has been insulting.

Couldn't agree more. While Apple aren't exactly going backwards, they definitely miss the 'drive' that SJ gave them as a company.

Technology progresses along a curve. There's a big bang followed by rapid improvements and then things settle down to a more incremental level of improvement.

Few people buy a new car or TV each year because there's very little point. There's constant improvements coming out but something made five years ago is good enough for most people. It takes a big bang (like the introduction of flat panels) to get innovation moving again.

The iPhone 8 and X are outstanding phones. Given the reviews and benchmarks, it's hardly like they've fallen behind the competition. I don't think Apple's next great innovation will be in the phone hardware though.

I know that this doesn't particularly apply where Apple is concerned. There are however in the world of Android some very capable and well spec'd mid-range phones about these days and speaking personally I will think twice before buying another 'flagship' phone. The Samsung A5 immediately springs to mind - my current phones are iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7.

It will die just before or after your contract will end. That's what my iphone 5 did to me, mobo died. But yes i would only change if I had to not because of the "new tech" is being launched

I agree, I have the 6s Plus, the iPhone 8 does not interest me. I'm thinking about the X but I might wait for another year before I upgrade.

Was never in a contract as such. Just a rolling pay monthly sim only plan. Previous iPhone had it for at least 4 years. But yea I know what you mean. These things usually die just outside contract/warranty.

I'm with Woz, was not impressed with the X, and well was going to hold off from getting one and maybe make the switch to the gorgeous LG V30, right up til a short while back, when i put my order in. I have the bleedin apple watch, which was just replaced by Apple CS for free. so its kinda new. But really digging the new LG V30.. Screen ratio is better, feels actually light in comparison to the latest flagships. I was in a way hoping that Apple wouldn't replace my watch as that would have been enough of an excuse... But nope they went ahead and did it for free :(

You guys talking about getting Android phones are cray cray. Don't you know all your apple stuff syncs together?
Which is a good and bad thing, as my p*rnhub history from my iPhone is showing up on my iMac. Thankfully I am the only user of these devices...

Can you sync you apple stuff when you change to android phone, i.e notes and documents. Or you have to type manually?

Just use Chrome with a google account on Apple / Android / PC and everything gets sync'd. As for notes and documents, again google cloud should (or dare i say it, OneDrive wash mouth out with bleach) do what you're looking for.

What's wrong with OneDrive? I've been using it for years without issue and no Google privacy issues.

Bait and switch tactics from Microsoft. Get you onboard, then downgrade you to 5GB only. Practically forcing it on you via the OS. Those who don't know how to use a pc, probably do not realise that they're saving all their office files into their onedrive, with the aim to charge a subscription fee, cos 5gb doesn't get you very far... At least Google Drive gives you 15gb for free ! so soon as they hit me with the bait and switch, i just went to google, and i'll happily give them my $2 per month or whatever it is to goto 50gb, soon as i'm done on the 15gb.
