Do you have the 4GB installed now? If so, what do you get in Windows? Im lucky in that I have an x86 OS yet have 3.5GB of my 4GB used in windows with the other 512 being my 8800GT. Worst comes to worse you would only see 3GB of your 4, but is it really worth buying x64 XP for 1GB?

32bit XP ususally see's about 3.25gb doesnt it? but taskmanager see's more it hink though don't know if it can actually uses the rest that it see's?

It varies. 32 bit will only address 4GBs of RAM accross anythign that has RAM, which includes system RAM, graphics cards, sound cards, etc. What it will see and use as system RAM seems slightly hit and miss, in that I had the exact same setup as a mate, and I got 3.5GB of system RAM, and he only had 3.2.

If you wanna go 64 bit your probably better off going for windows Vista x64. Last I heard xp x64 had bad driver support and Microsoft are going to be concentrating on vista and windows 7 from now on.

Windows x64 drivers are fine... I'm using it right now!

x64 XP will be supported for as long as Server 2003 x64 is supported.

Because they're pretty much the same thing.

concur. my intel gfx is a nightmare, screen randomly flickers and occasionally cuts out completely. getting HP printer drivers is a nightmare too.

I have zero problems with XP x64, other than the fact the DX10 won't be available for it (officially).

You do need x64 if you want to use 4GB of RAM correctly.

If you are in 32bit environment you are limited to 2GB of RAM per application process.

That should be big enough you may think, but I've gone over that limit with a big game of company of heroes
