Just curious, but back when I bought my 64 bit chip I bought windows xp 64 bit. But although it usually runs well, some things need to be turned down to 32 bit to work.
With Vista coming sometime next year I wonder... What is windows xp 64-bit? It has not been there for that long and seem to be outdated soon. Who is it really meant for?

i use x64 bit pro with sp2 on & it is better than the 32bit verison sorry.

i have had xp home & pro from when they came out & now there is a sp2 for x64 it is better ;-).

I have to agree [about XP x64 being best]. I hope the x64 version of Vista is just as snappy because I'm not overly impressed with Vista x86 at the mo.

All my games ran on XP X64. I found later down the line the system became unstable and switched back to x86 also WiFi drivers were not supported.

Still when you first install it, first thing you notice is the boot speed. :)

I'm using Vista Ultimate 64bit right now and most everything I've thrown at it works just fine.
All my hardware either has drivers available or works "out of the box".
Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 wasn't impressed with Vista - but a quite cheap upgrade to Media Creator 9 solved that one.
The 64bit OS is seeing all 4GB of my RAM and feels nice and nippy.

I've got no real intention of switching back to 32bit - it's about time the software houses out there realised that they aren't neccessarily in charge and should embrace what is being thrown at them rather than trying to dictate what they will and won't support.

I can imagine that windows xp64 will be owned by not too many people compared to vista 64 and ordinary xp. So who was it catered for and how much focus will it get as not too many owns it.
At the moment it seem a very few are owners of xp64 and when aplications have matured and might be attractive to the main crowd, Vista 64 is probably out there. That makes me think that I might have to change OS much earlier than ever before for going down this branch of windows xp. Support is decided from how many use the product, will there be enough on xp64 for 3 years to go?

I am pretty happy with my xp64, no major problems that I have not solved up until now. But will it keep being like that when another 64bit OS comes out?

I am not trying to make a doomsday prayer about windows x64 at all. I actually just wondered about the roadmap, and what appears to me the small timeframe set for windows xp64. But maybe I am, hopefully, altogether wrong.
