Is your PC properly insured?

Looking through my home contents insurance the other day, I just happened to notice that they only cover a PC up to a maximum of £1500 which includes the monitor. Anything over this requires you to phone them and arrange special (read expensive) insurance cover just for that item. I'm not too bothered regards accidental damage, as it is very unlikely the entire PC & screen would need replacing due to damage, but theft is another matter and I would be very much out of pocket.

So, question is, how many of you have special cover just for your PC's?

my old insurance policy use to be named items were valued to £3000 and it did not cost anymore to do this

thats a good point over the last year i have spent a lot off money on mine ,no idea on value (subjective i know ) but maybe worth looking in too :)

My insurance policy just asked me to notify them if there were any individual items over 3k. My home theatre system's worth more than that, but I can break it down into separate power amps etc, so only the Tag processor is even close to the 3k mark.

I would certainly argue that my Dell 2407's were not 'part' of the computer, and should be considered separate items in the event of theft. Even so if they limited me to 3k, including screen, I dont think it would be a massive problem.

I have an old laptop here, if i tipped coffee over it, reckon i'd be able to get a new one? Ive been paying insurance for various things for so many years without a claim. Must be thousands of quid.... I want a new lappy

Something to ask the insurance man: if you build a PC yourself then is it considered a single PC or a collection of parts. If it's stolen then do they replace the parts individually or just replace with a pre-built machine?

When my two PCs fried in an incident with lightning, they just gave us money to cover the cost of the systems as a sum of the total worth of all the components in them.

i got contents insurance just for my new dell xps m1710 laptop

im paying £16 a month which includes accidental cover for my laptop anywhere (even abroad) upto 2100

it also includes my pc at home valued at 2k

i dotn live in an area that would be too likely to get my laptop / pc stolen but i think there is a chance that i spillt something / knocked somthing over by accident - especially with the laptop!!!
