Hi,

If we have M$ ISA server installed on a domain controller for one domain, would it be possible to remove that domain completley and make the proxy server a DC in a new domain without reinstalling ISA?

Thanks

Ben

Well I can't because the new domain doesn't exist. We already have ISA installed on a domain controller on domain 1. What I want to do though is when domain 2 is created, to demote the ISA server then promote it to a DC on domain 2 but without reinstalling ISA. Can I do that? (Sorry if I don't make much sense :o)

Yes you can, its a fiddle, but can be done.

I have a long history with ISA server and not once has it been straight forward to get working properly first time.

You'll need to add the new domain to the existing array of server(s). The fact that its on a DC makes no difference and therefore a DCPROMO command won't touch ISA. But you won't need to reinstall.

Its probably worth backing up the settings just incase so you can just import the backup.

Yea, DCPROMO will do it for you (However it's really bad practice to install ISA server on the DC, they should always be sepperate machines)

Ahh well that wasn't down to me- it was another company who made the proxy server a DC. So will ISA run okay on just a member server?

Yea, it will run just fine as a member server.. Are we talking ISA 2000 or 2004? If it's 2004 then it really should always be run on a member server and NEVER on a DC.
