After multiple complaints from various teams team Xplicit had their PC's spot checked for any cheats or illegal commands.

After a quick search the admin managed to find an illegal command on two seperate players PC's. The offending players were fludie and choong, caught with the snd_restart command in their configs - and bound to keys. After much deliberation the admins have decided to remove team Xplicit from the tournament, meaning they will not recieve any prize money

Basically an anti-flash, however there has been reports of choong having his own cheats as well.

What legal right did the organisers have to access somebody elses computer? Is that not covered by the Computer Misuse Act?

I'm guessing that buy attending the event they agree to any terms and conditions outlined by the organizer.

Well none but they just asked, it's their event, they can say "let us search your pc or leave".

On another note, it's a joke to be thrown out for this. The command has legit uses and doesn't even work any more.

The fact that;

1. The didn't use it in a match
2. It's not even a worthwhile cheating command. It hardly benefits a player, despite what people think.

It's up to the admins though and they players know the rules, so it's their fault.

an old story exmplaing why the comman can be legitimately used : http://www.cadred.org/News/Article/41340/

WT released the following statement;
* It is true, I had snd_restart as a bound command. I’d like to explain the reasons behind this.
* I’ve had snd_restart in my config for more than year, because of my USB sound card, when I alt-tabbed to Windows and back my sound went crazy, and I had to restart it with my bind.
* If anyone thinks that I used it against flashes, it's his decision, but if I did why would I bind it to so distant keyboard like K (when I play on w,a,s,d movement keys)
* If I would be using snd_restart during any game, you would be able to see it in my in-eye demos and also from sourceTV, where it's very easy to see this usage of this command, the model ALWAYS lags. You can try it, push snd_restart several times during jumping and you end up flying in air (you can also see that in sourceTV), the same way can be used to notice it during running.
* If you want some demos to check if I used it, just write to me and I will send them, so you can check it for yourself.

Thats a bit ridiculous, tho fair enough if theres tournament restrictions for binds and cvars, etc. but theres 101 valid reasons for having snd_restart bound to a key.

theres 101 valid reasons for having snd_restart bound to a key.
But if the tournament said no in the first place, all 101 valid reasons are irrelevant.

Seriously, if you're being pro about it, making sure your config is legit for any competition you're playing should be pretty high up the list of things to check.
