I know Valve are farting around with Half Life 3 but given how quickly they churned out L4D2 I would have thought they would have part 3 in the works by now.

There is still nothing like it for coop and frankly I'm starting to miss the dynamic. Might be time to start playing L4D2 again...

We thought we'd have Half-Life: Episode 3 soon after Episode 2 considering the time frame Episode 1 and 2 came out.

Valve can be unpredictable at times.

Valve cannot count to three, we all know this..

Portal
Portal 2

Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead 2

Half Life
Half Life 2

Half Life ep1
Half Life ep2

There won't be a left for dead 3 ;)

And, don't forget about 'valve time'...

Oi, get to the back of the queue.

I have been stood here waiting for Ep3 for AGES.

;)

I think that they are more predictably unpredictable :)

LOL.

Is it possible that the L4D canon can somehow be related to HL? I hope so, will **** my pants if Gordon meets up with Bill

What if Bill is Gordons dad?

Exactly. 3 is a number that just doesn't exist in Valve's vocabulary.

Also don't forget:

Team Fortress
Team Fortress 2

Do we really though?

I'm not sure what a L4D 3 might "add" to the series. For me, L4D 2 fixed some of the flaws that L4D 1 had e.g. closet camping, but I'm not sure what major features L4D 3 might bring...?

Besides, they are probably quite busy with Dota 2 and CS:GO at the moment.

Source engine is dated and miles behind the Unreal/Frostbite/Cryengine in terms of looks, sounds, physics, interaction etc..

Us valve fans will buy any old game but to appeal to mass market they need to upgrade their platformbefore they release a AAA title again.

I don't think any of Valves titles have been AAA, they all came out and had a pretty big cult following which boosted them to critical acclaim ala Dark Souls, not much was put into the marketing side, just relied on being fantastic games irc, as I've never actually seen a trailer or advert to any of the Valve games except L4D, but even that was pretty cult and risky for a good while after release.

As a long standing PC gamer I'd have to disagree.

HL 1 & 2 were.

Go download source engine and play around with it :) it's like PC paint compared to Unreal.

Valve's player base are a loyal bunch.

Valve are still a business however and need to look to the future.

source engine does not have half the tools it's competitors have.

It's like using win XP when everyone is now on Win 7.

Don't get me wrong I love them for that but if it weren't for Steam they would be struggling in the software market.
