I was wondering if anyone could help me here. I would love a job that had me in the middle of nowhere with no one around me. Something like a Lighthouse keeper (I know that job doesn't exist anymore, but it is a good example).

Does anyone know where to look for this sort of thing? As long as I can use the internet when not working, I'll be happy. I want to start an Open University degree in October, which would require the internet for that.

I was wondering if there was anything in Siberia or the Arctic or something.

Thank you all for the replies. Some interesting stuff there.

Remote WFH Software Developer sounds like the best bet then. Or Freelancer running your own show?

Well there is plenty of scope for programmers to work from home, it perhaps has some negative consequences re: getting yourself promoted or climbing any sort of corporate ladder though various companies like to pretend they have a "flat hierarchy" etc.. these days anyway.

The main issue perhaps is the lack of experience, working on some hobby projects etc.. isn't likely to be the same sort of experience but might be useful in order to land yourself a junior developer role.

I'll look into trying to do some freelancing stuff although at my current stage I'm trying to transition from backend programming to frontend design and also spending more time doing bits of maths as I get ready for my OU course.

If I can get better at website design I'll be able to do the whole website thing. Frontend and backend whereas at the moment my design skills are poor so I don't do much on the frontend of websites.
