Isolating Radiator Tails

I wouldn't bother unless you decorate a lot, just use the radiator valves to shut the radiator off from the rest of the system.

What I underestimated when removing my living room radiator, was the weight of it even after it had been drained.

I have always fitted a stop valve and a drain valve on all my rads - You can take the rad off without draining the system.

You can anyway.
I'm about to do the same thing, turn both valves off, crack one side open and collect the water, remove radiator. Simple

I'm always amazed how much water is actually in a radiator.

A large full radiator is going to be heavy. This also assumes that your CH plumbing is level. Our boiler is above the radiators, so we would have to refill it anyway.

Realistically how often do you remove rads for decorating? Once every few years or longer for most people. Lifting a big rad full of water will not be fun. Not worth the hassle IMO.

Yea, I think I've talked myself out of it for the reasons all mentioned.
It was such a drag on draining just 3 of them at the weekend, but as has been said, it's an infrequent task.
Cheers all :-)
