Isopropyl Alcohol. Do you drink it?

For many years now, every 18 months or so, I've been buying a 500ml pot of Isopropyl Alcohol from my local chemist. I use it to clean things around my home office - including computers inside and out. And it works out far cheaper than buying screen wipes and other items soaked in IPA.

But the politically correct jobs worth in my local chemist has refused to order it in for me any more. The reason being, I may drink it!!!

And yet, I can buy 25 litres at a time online.

Does anyone here drink Isopropyl Alcohol?

my guess would be that you shouldn't drink it as it would make you sick.

"Drinking" alcohol is ethanol.

IPA is toxic, you'd get seriously ill ingesting it. While cleaning something vigorously, some splashed in to my mouth and on to my tongue and it stung.

It is great for cleaning stuff though, I buy a bottle of it now and again from the Pharmacy at Asda, I think it's about £3 for 500ml of it.

Well they can power cars on ethanol, same stuff that's in alcoholic drinks.

I quite realise that IPA is not drinkable. I'm highlighting the stupidity of political correctness in this ****ed up country.

I too buy the occasional 500ml bottle of IPA from the chemist. As you say they're very handy for cleaning PCs, screens and the like. They do always ask what you want to buy it for, but "cleaning CPUs and TFTs" tends to get the confused 'he must know what he's doing' look, and they hand it over. LOL

Alas, I've never been tempted to drink it...

I don't understand why a full blown alcoholic would even drink it. You can get 3 litres of cider at lidl for like 99p for goodness sake.

It's not really political correctness, it's simply stupidity or at least ignorance on the part of the jobsworth.

Which is actually quite sensible, and has reduced suicide by paracetamol overdose.

I'm sure if some one was determined to commit suicide by paracetamol overdose they wouldn't be put off by one store telling them they can't buy 3 boxes, they could go to 3 different checkouts with one box at a time.
