Hi guys,

If I want to game in the evening I'm going to have to fork out around £170 to cancel my contract with O2. Shocking service as most of their Access customers are aware.

The area I'm in can only get up to 8mb anyway so my options are limited to be honest but what would be a decent, reliable ISP that I can achieve at least a three bar connection on MW2 in the evening?

I'm thinking of going back to Sky, as bad as I thought it was, it was a god send compared to o2, or there's BT...

I'm just hoping one of them give me a good deal considering the amount I'm having to pay o2 :(

What a rubbish scenario I find myself in

Well if you aren't downloading vast amounts you could consider Zen, excellent reputation still, just expensive if you want to download a lot. Depends how much you want to spend really and obviously you get what you pay for, anybody charging £20 a month is going to be deficient in some way unfortunately.

I'm with Sky and think they're superb, although they have just restructured their packages slightly.

How have they restructured mate?

I'm hoping Sky would do me a deal going back to them but not sure.

I was on a 30gb download limit with Sky, I'd set that as a benchmark for a new ISP tbh.

Without digging out the leaflet and having a look. I think it was their mid package (which is the 8mb deal and now called everyday) that changed. I think they lowered the acceptable usage limit down slightly to about 10GB on the everyday package which doesn't meet your qouta. If you go over the limit 2 (possibly) 3 months in a row they will automatically up you to the max package.

TBH the max package is a great deal for an extra fiver anyway

EDIT: I believe their max package is unlimited

Ah ok, well some good news.

Just rang O2, the girl I spoke to was very nice, I told her my situation and she gave me the total I'd be charged to cancel the contract, £140. She said she'd speak to her manager though and see if she could get it lowered (no promises) and she did, to £48.

I've just got to wait until I get my Mac code now. I also rang Sky and they quoted me £10 for internet, which is half price of what I paid before. So everything looks promising at the moment.

Damn. Nevermind.

Does anyone have an opinion of Orange broadband? I have a colleague at work who is very impressed with it and lives near me.

Sky have said £10 is for new customers only, so it's £17 for me, then an extra £30 for reactivation which is annoying.

From my months of researching ISP's it boils down to this.

The big companies are complete rubbish over 8MB. They are oversubscribed. I'm sure people can add more to this list. BT, o2, Orange, Virgin, Sky are the ones that come to mind.

The LLU equivalent of these companies are far better. You still probably want say o2/be over Orange LLU etc.

fast.co.uk are probably the best 8MB ISP out there from my reading. I asked a question over email to them once and had a reply 7 minutes later. They are pricey mind you.

You will then be able to game online in evenings though. :)

Guys just an update on this.

I went for Fast in the end and couldn't be happier, I haven't done any proper internet tests but the difference playing both MW2 and FIFA 10 is incredible. FIFA I can finally play Be a Pro mode with no button lag and MW2 I never drop below 3 bar which is great.

Their support is great too, I got an email answered at 11pm within half an hour from an English guy :)

If you can put up with the traffic shaping, they seem to have sorted the latency on access.
