I opened up my browser at home and received a message saying V21 were no longer available to provide my internet connection.

The page also had a link to sign up with a new isp which wanted 3 months rental upfront (about £72).

Does anyone know if this is legit, or if something is being nasty on my PC?

V21 were recently taken over by another company (biscit?) and this may be part of the process. I checked V21's website and saw nothing to suggest a problem.

I want to get reconnected asap, but am very wary about slapping in my credit card details to something im unsure about.

V21 - Terms and Conditions

Dear V21 Customer,

V21 - Terms and Conditions

As you know, we recently announced the ending of minimum contract terms for new customers subscribing to our broadband services. Unfortunately, some customers have wrongly understood the reasoning behind this announcement.

We're a customer-centric company. And if proof was ever needed, here it is! Effective immediately, customers have the choice of contract terms or no contract terms for whatever service they would like to have. This choice is not available to existing V21 customers, whose existing terms and conditions still apply and will continue to do so.

So, if a new customer chooses contract terms, no disconnection charge will be imposed at the end of the contract period. If the customer chooses no contract terms, a £70 disconnection charge will be made in the event that he or she cancels the service within 12 months of subscribing to a broadband package, or 18 months for our remarkable, money-saving freeMAX phone and broadband bundle.

Sincerely,

Hugh Paterson
Chief Executive
Biscit and V21
