Right, we're currently with PlusNet Broadband Premier Option 1 8mb @ £21.99pm. This has a 20GB peak-time (4pm-Midnight) monthly allowance. Once 13gb is reached all internet is throttled to 2mb, and once 17gb is reached it's throttled to 1mb.
Moreless every other month we get the "You've nearly used you're allowance" and last week's "You've used 12gb so far" mail made me think about changing ISP's...

This is our telephone exchange, and from what I understand that means we're limited to 8mb ADSL (really wanted Be 24mb :()

So, what's a good (speed, reliability & not nazi usage policy's) ISP?
Is there anyway I can get a connection that's faster than 448k upstream? (dad does a lot of work uploading, and of-course there's my web-cams/gaming pings to think about!)
Are there any ISP's who have their peak-time allowance during business hours? (as that's when our connection's usually least used.)

Finally, back before home-broadband existed, dad's work had BT install an ISDN line into the house (which is currently not being used). Can that be used for anything at all? (have another 8mb ADSL line on it?)

Thanks All.
Ed.

Ty for the suggestions...

On the subject of upload speeds, pretty much the only place you'll find quicker is on cable, and some LLU operators, or SDSL lines.

According to Virgin Media, I cant get cable :(
The LLU's listed on the exchange site are CPW/TalkTalk & Orange - do they do it?
SDSL - I wish! The exchange isn't listed as SDSL enabled :(

The key difference is the increased upstream, and you get "higher priority" through the BTw network in the event of congestion.

Most sell it as their Office products - Enta for one. UKFSN:
Service Peak Allowance** Off-peak Allowance*** Price
Office MAX 5 5 GB 45 GB £20.00
Office MAX 45 45 GB 300 GB £25.00
Office MAX 90 90 GB 330 GB £35.00

Zen Office 8000 (£45 ex VAT), Office 8000 Max (£79 ex VAT).

Thanks.
£79pm just aint gonna happen, but the UKFSN ones look good:

£35pm for 90 GB peak & 330gb off peak @ 8mb down & 832kbps up.
And they define 'peak' as: Monday to Friday 08:00 to 20:00, so weekends/& weekdays after 8pm is 'off peak' :D

Yea, that looks very good, thanks.

Any ideas if anything can be done with the old ISDN line

Bit of a thread resurrection, but two more questions:

Any reasons not to change onto UKFSN (looking at either Office MAX 45 £25.00 OR Office MAX £35.00) - my worry is that I'd never heard of them before (unlike the big names of Pipex etc).
Also, how come I can't find any other ISP's doing the same speeds with the same usage allowance @ similar prices? All the others seem to charge more

Other question (which may be completely retarded :p):
I know that school were on a standard ADSL MAX connection from the same exchange as me (SSCBD), but now have 10mb SDSL and changed to SSRAD to get it (& I've noticed that BE are on that exchange too...).
That exchange is 7.21miles from school (& my home), so the question is, could whatever was done to change what exchange school's connected to, be done for our line?? (I know they didn't dig up the road & lay new cables the whole way!)

TY

Thanks for the reply

You can't get the exchange changed for ADSL, and there isn't a 10Mbps SDSL product - the most you can get is 2Mbps SDSL, so odds are it was a leased line of some sort. The reason anyone was willing to put some effort in, for whatever connection the school has, was because they (or more likely, the council as a whole) was parting with umpteen thousand pounds a month.

Ah yea, I heard how much they're paying and it is thousands per month  Guess that has quite a bit of buying power!

UKFSN are completely reselling a product from Enta, who are a huge outfit. Running ads on the TV doesn't make an ISP any good.

Right, so how do I decide which Enta reseller to chose?

Business Max Premium (8Mbps, 832Kbs). 45Gb/300Gb
Naims - £29.39
Aquiss - £32.99
Titan ADSL - £29.38
ADSL24 - £29.38
Vivaciti - £29.38
UKFSN - £29.38
