Hi Guys,

I am currently with sky for broadband and talk.

I have unlimited package with them and currently sync at 20meg because i am near the exchange. I get realistically 17-18meg download.

I moved with them in march and i am now getting annoyed with them because of their restrictions.

I.E i cannot have my own mail server etc due to port blocking.

Is there a ISP which has all the bells and whistles ie no port block/traffic shaping etc and the ability to buy a block of static IPs.

I do a lot of downloading but i usually do this at night when sleeping. besides that my daily usage in the house is roughly anything between 6-8gb daily

any suggestions would be great.

Have looked at a couple such as plusnet/zen etc.

but not too sure on allowances as i have always usually been used to this so called "unlimited" coming from bethere/o2 previously

Zen will do a maximum of 200GB a month, but it'll cost you £35 a month. However, they are probably the best ISP. Support is fantastic, no throttling, constant speeds, the list goes on.

do they have unlimited bandwidth at night ? is the limit only during the day ?

It does depend on if your exchange is unbundled and if you can get fibre in your area as to which ISP to go with. Find out more here; http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker

If it's a bog standard ADSL enabled exchange with BT kit only I'd say go with Plusnet.

If it's unbundled I'd ask others. I live in the Highlands and only get re-sold BT stuff so haven't done much research on this.

If fibre is available why would you do anything else? :P

yes its unbundled and i have fibre in my area as well.

so any recommendations would be great

Sorry to hijack but I am with sky unlimited and completely satisfied however I can get virgin fibre. do they throttle their cable connections like they do with their poor adsl or is it also unlimited but just much faster?

I'm with IDNet, not the cheapest, but with very good UK support and no throttling / shaping / blocking.
