So over the past few months I've been getting severe throttling with Virgin Media, I phone up every few weeks, They see something has changed on the line and then set it back to the full speed of 150Mbps.

Then a few days after it gets set back down to 50Mbps so the whole process starts again.

Now recently I download a lot through Origin, Steam, Uplay, GOG and then do lots of Streaming via Netflix so my download sizes are high.

Is there an ISP that doesn't do this annoying throttling where you actually have to phone them up and ask they put the speed back up to the amount you are paying for ?

I'm already spending £40 a month to not get full speed, It's a bit of a cheek to offer no traffic management only for the most expensive packages.

Possibly but if it is throttling you due to high downloading you are getting what you signed for.

If its dropping your speed for another reason then its a bad service.

No throttling on Sky Fibre Unlimited.

Edit - also as others to the best of my knowledge Virgin do only throttle based on upload usage.

Nothing wrong with the Sky Hub router. Gives me Wifi coverage across the house and my laptop generally connects at between 500mbps and 800mbps

There are a few FTTC ISPs which do not traffic shape but then the max you are going to get is 76Mbps. Even then you would have to be close to the cabinet to achieve this.

Virgin only 'throttle' the upload speed, what your suffering from sounds more like area congestion.

^

Set up a thinkbroadband monitor to see if you can notice any peak time patterns, this is usually a pretty good indicator of high congestion in your area.

Are you sure it's throttling and not congestion issues? With the "fix" being just temporarily giving you more priority?

No throttling at all on BT and Plusnet FTTC.
