Hello!

First real post here so go easy on me. :)

Brought an Acer GD245HQ last week but ever since I've got it have been having problems running at 120hz. The screen sort of seems to stutter, never being smooth on desktop as well as games. Works OK at 100hz.

Has anyone got any ideas what might be causing it? I'm running an i7 @ 4ghz and an ati 5850.

I'm beginning to wonder if it is a monitor fault, after thinking all along it would be a software fault...

Thanks in advance. :)

I've read here about somebody else here with a similar issue, try a search and it may bring something up, this may be of help to you.

I seem to remember reading something about increasing your cards default 2D clocks may sort some issues out, either that or buy a Nvidia card ;)

Yes i have the same problem with mine

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18154969&highlight=stutter+120hz

Im beginning to suspect monitor also because when i tried it on my friends gtx275 it was actually WORSE then my xfire 5870`s.In fact even at 100 hz the gtx 275 was doing it,it wasnt until i dropped it to 60 hz that it was ok :( .

sigh,i dont fancy taking this back and trying to explain it :(

hi dash, ive sorted it now, sent it back for a replacement samsung 2233z, no problems at all with that. turns out it may of been a faulty monitor?

so davy the samsung doesnt have the stutter problem at all at 120 hz?

I was pretty much convinced after trying it on my mates system it was down to the acer.Oh well i dont fancy dropping to 22 inch after all these years so i might try and exchange for the new asus one thats imminant.

Did you have much of a problem explaining to them or did they just change it no questions asked?

Thanks for confiming with me anyway davy, the only other known case id heard of was a dutch guy,by the time i`d seen his thread he`d already exchanged it and never responded to my questions ;) .

Hi dash.

Posting this from my phone at thorpe park so sorry if I don't make much sense!

I know how frustrating it can be trying to find a problem, I must have looked on 1000 things on google, doing things with my graphics card and everything, never cured it.

I sent it back as 'faulty' through ****, didn't query it, refund within 4 days. Although one thing I will say is I'd only had it for about 3-4 days.

I can't see any signs of this odd stuttering on the samsung, infact, I prefer it to the acer as to me, it was a bit to big the acer.

I'll put my email address down if you have any more questions, as I find it difficult to post on this forum on my phone!!

Take care,

Matt.

ok here`s the state of play now :).Took monitor back and was pleasantly surprised when they said yes to an exchange with no fuss at all :) woohoo.

Got it home annnnnnnd....yes you`ve guessed it the replacement STILL does it,in fact its even worse,it does it at 100hz VERY noticeably (60hz is still fine).

So it looks like something that`s inherently wrong with the ACER GD245HQ.I honestly can`t believe more people haven`t spotted it(though to be fair it is rather subtle depending what your doing).

Back to shop again tomorrow it looks like then, they gave me an assurance that there would be no problem taking it back if it was the same again....maybe ill just get a credit note and put an order in for the new ASUS 23/24 inch when it comes out(minus the 3d glasses nonsense obviously ;) ).I`ll let you know how i get on.

Ok the state of play is......Took the 2nd acer back got credit note and asked the shop when the asus vg236 would be out, they said 28/7/10...today ;).Took my credit note down and got myself the ASUS,long story short...perfect no stuttering at 120hz at all.

On top of that brighter screen, nicer colours and much better on the desktop (if you left the overdrive function ON, the acers text looked diabolical :( ).Very happy with my choice on 2 fronts.....stuttering gone and better monitor (albeit SLIGHTLY smaller screen area ).

So the moral is be wary of the acer,i suspect a big stink may appear soon when these monitors are more widespread and people see the stuttering effect.I can only assume the reason more people havent said anything is possibly down to it being quite difficult to spot in some respects (people may put it down to hard drive paging for instance).Still my recommendation anyway is ASUS, beats the acer hands down.Although it has a very reflective screen which takes a little getting used to,but its not horrendously bad.
