Issue fitting new case fan to Dell Optiplex

I have a Dell Optiplex 9020 in an ultra small form factor case. Recently diagnostics have been reporting an issue with the case fan which I decided to replace. Being based in the UK it seems that my options were limited, but I purchased a replacement fan from Amazon UK which was shipped from the US.

Upon receiving the replacement fan (which I thought was an exact replacement) I discovered that the connector on the replacement fan was different to the fan I was replacing. It was then that I learnt that Dell have their own connector formats…

I’ve tried to research this online, but am having trouble finding the info I need (or more likely, understanding the info I need). So I thought I’d reach out here to see if anyone could offer me some advice.

Here are photos of the connector on the original fan:

Am I going to be able to use this new fan by either putting the Dell connector on it, or buy an adapter to convert the white connector to the size and wire order of the black (Dell) connector? As you might be able to tell, I’m a bit green in this area!

Purchasing another Dell specific fan isn’t an option for me in the UK. The few that I’ve found online are all based in the US and shipping to the UK is not an option for any of them.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try searching for the following in Google: Dell 725Y7
I've found one on the bay for a sensible price.
Thanks for your reply but the model number you suggested is for an 80x80x20 case fan for the small form factor case. I need a 60x60x20 fan for the ultra small form factor case, and the Dell version is not available to me here in the UK.

Would something like this do the trick?

Same thing from Amazon

Failing that the cables look exactly the same but on a different connecter.

If you have the tools you could cut both the connecters off and solder the new fan cables to the same ones on the 5 pin connecter

Some details on the cables\pins etc here

I had seen these cables but I’m not sure that the “Dell” connector on them is compatible with the black connector I posted in my original post.

I’ll check out the link in the second part of your post, thanks.

New (correct) fan ordered for £7.50.

I checked the Amazon listing again for the fan I had purchased and the fan in the photo has the correct connector on it (and the listing said it was for a Dell Optiplex). They sent me a fan with the wrong connector. Return initiated and a refund of £22.00 incoming!

I thought I had taken more care than just to order a random fan. It's just it took a couple of weeks to come from the US to the UK so I had forgotten the details...
